Chapter 8: Stormwater Management Design Examples This chapter presents design examples for two hypothetical development sites in the State of New York. The first site, “Stone Hill Estates,” is a residential development near Ithaca. The second is a commercial site in Albany. In urban areas, stormwater management is especially important because of decreases in natural land cover and the expansion of impervious surfaces, such as rooftops, sidewalks and roadways. These surfaces exacerbate runoff because they change the permeability of the landscape — preventing rainwater from soaking in or infiltrating the soil.

Urban Storm Water Management, Second Edition covers the design, installation, and maintenance of storm water management systems, addresses the impact of urban development on runoff and infiltration, and focuses on storm water management relative to flooding and water pollution.
Recognizing that urbanization increases and accelerates runoff Cited by: Covering all elements of the storm water runoff process, Urban Storm Water Management includes Urban stormwater management book examples and case studies to guide practitioners in the design, maintenance, and understanding of runoff systems, erosion control systems, and common design methods and misconceptions.
It covers storm water management in practice and in regulation, and reviews 5/5(1). Managing Urban Stormwater Systems Managing stormwater flow is a particular challenge in urban environments. Urban Stormwater Management Tools details the design of basins and detection systems, covers subsurface and wetland issues, and presents Cited by: Sustainable Stormwater Management provides a cutting-edge approach to handling urban rain and runoff, using the landscape as an untapped resource—with substantial environmental and economic benefifts.
Offering proven information on how to design, install, and maintain landscapes for eco-friendly solutions, the book covers water issues in a variety of urban settings and addresses relevant policies 5/5(4). Urban Storm Water Management, Second Edition covers the design, installation, and maintenance of storm water management systems, addresses the impact of urban development on runoff and infiltration, and focuses on storm water management relative to flooding and water pollution.
Recognizing that urbanization increases and accelerates runoff, reduces infiltration, and deteriorates water quality, the author proposes storm water. Stormwater management as art.
Absolutely. Rain is a resource that should be valued and celebrated, not merely treated as an urban design problem—and yet, traditional stormwater treatment methods often range from ugly to by: 4.
Urban Stormwater - Best-Practice Environmental Management Guidelines resulted from a collaboration between State government agencies, local government and leading research institutions.
The guidelines have been designed to meet the needs of people involved in the planning, design or management of urban land uses or stormwater drainage systems.
This resource is a guide for local councils and the development industry on stormwater management, mainly erosion and sediment control during the construction-phase of urban development.
Better management of stormwater will: reduce pollution to downstream areas and receiving waters; reduce land degradation ; raise an awareness of ecologically sustainable development principles and applying these to development; improve the health, ecology and amenity of urban streams.
